SUMMARY:Annual Meeting & Potluck
DESCRIPTION:Slow Food Solano will hold its annual meeting and potluck on Wednesday\, January 29 at 6 p.m\, at a private home in Suisun Valley.  The public is invited to attend the meeting and learn about the school garden program and how they can help support the effort. \nFor over a decade\, the Solano chapter has awarded grants to teachers at Solano schools to support their school garden programs.  These grants allow teachers to buy gardening materials so they can focus their efforts on planting vegetables and fruits with their students and integrating the lessons from their gardening experiences into their curriculum. \nIn 2019\, 21 grants were made to 20 Solano County school campuses: six in Vacaville; six in Fairfield; four in Vallejo\, three in Benicia and one in Dixon.  Slow Food is accepting grant requests from teachers for the current year through January 31. \nPositive feedback from teachers demonstrates why this program is so important.  One local teacher commented “The garden is one of the few things I have found to spark joy and interest in my students. My students have done research on soil\, plants\, and seeds. They have a genuine interest in the science behind gardening.” \nSlow Food Solano also promotes eating locally produced foods\, and our gatherings offer a chance to share good food with a diverse group of people who believe in the Slow Food philosophy of celebrating food that is good\, clean\, fair and for all.  Events sponsored by Slow Food during the year typically feature local farm produce and often presentations from a farmer or food writer.\nFor the event address and to confirm your attendance\, please RSVP to Cynthia at crhudd@gmail.com or 707-372-8658. \n

SUMMARY:Liqueur & Cordial Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Liqueurs & cordials are a great way to preserve your backyard fruit or favorite farmers market fruit. They make great gifts\, and are an excellent excuse to purchase those beautiful glass decanters and liqueur glasses you see at thrift and gift shops! Even in the winter there are many options for liqueurs to make  and then you are primed for all the wonderful possibilities of the local fruit season this summer! \nDuring the class youll make either a Limoncello\, Cherry\, or Strawberry Liqueur. We’ll also discuss aftercare for your liqueurs & other simple equipment you’ll need later on. \nThis is a hands on make-n-take style class with a liberal dose of beverage lore thrown in\, too!  You instructor Sarah has been making and teaching liqueur-making for 20 years. She’s made liqueurs professionally for restaurants\, and has won multiple ribbons for them at the Alameda County Fair. She’s also a former organic farmer\, former sommelier\, and a member of Slow Food Solano! \nFor the last ten years\, Slow Food Solano has given grants to schools throughout Solano County\, enabling teachers and volunteers to get students into the garden\, to grow and taste fresh food.
